My teaching experience in 2nd class
Procedures of teaching
In 2nd class, I didn’t forget to check students’ attendance. I collected homework I had given them in 1st class, then I introduced today’s topic “Points, Lines and Angles”. I used the Indonesian national flag to introduce the topic. I make one student to draw the flag on whiteboard. I meant to make students participants, not audiences of class and also make them feel familiar to this topic. Continuously, I explain what points, lines and angles are, the kind of angles and how to measure size of angles with protractor.
After all explanation, I gave them exercises to check their understanding. Finally I called on some students to answer exercises in front of other students, then gave them summary in the end of class.
Overall, I could almost completely follow my teaching plan. However, I failed to do time management again.
Time management and organizing activities
I failed to do time management again. In 2nd class, students were struggling to solve exercises so it took longer time than I had expected. My failure is giving them a lot of exercises. 2nd class was 105 minutes so students were more tired than in 1st class which was 70 minutes. I should have reduced the number of exercises.
Exercises I made have another problem. I gave them problems to measure size of angles using protractor. However, the answers were difficult to measure with protractor like 32 degrees. Because of measuring error, each student has different answer and it made them confused. I should made problems with easy size angle to measure with protractor like 30 degrees or 60 degrees.
Classroom management
I tried to make my 2nd class more fun than 1st class. I made students participate more to class. However, I cannot say it succeeded because only few students were active. After the class finished, my teacher said to me that 7A students were passive and if I want to make them active, I needed to give them competitions. For example, if a student answers correctly in front of other students, he can get some scores. Actually, I needed to understand how my class students were and fit my teaching way to them.
Problem which I found in class and how to solve it
I found 1 problem in 2nd class. It is I needed to understand students’ feeling. For example, 105 minutes Mathematics class is absolutely tiring for students so I shouldn’t give them a lot of exercises. If I give them a lot of exercises, they cannot concentrate on Mathematics and it’s not efficient. Additionally, I also needed to understand their personality and fit my teaching way to that. It’s difficult to understand their personality with only 4 class but I still should do that because I’m their teacher.
