School Profile

The idea of establishing a Laboratory School coincided with the birth of PTPG (October 20, 1954) which turned into FKIP then became IKIP, and became UPI. In 1960 Kindergarten was established, in 1964 a Junior High School was established which was followed by the presence of a Senior High School. Everything functions as a Laboratory School. In 1964, UPI’s LabSchool High School was made a Development School Pilot Project (PPSP). Until 1984 and 1986 Elementary Schools were made as Setia Budhi State Experimentary Primary Schools which were temporarily located on the UPI campus, while SMPs were made into 38 Middle Schools and SMA became 20 High Schools. Pilot Labooratorium Schools were a necessity for UPI to study, develop and test various innovations and findings in the field of education.

Academic Support System

Each classroom has a projector and a whiteboard. Teachers can use a whiteboard, however, they need to prepare whiteboard markers by themselves. It’s not a big problem for Indonesian teachers because almost all of them use slides, textbooks or worksheets prepared by themselves in class.

To help students to learn more deeply, the school provides additional study hours in the form of co-curricular activities in several subjects like English (Bilingual Teaching), Japanese, Mathematics, and reading and writing Al-Quran. For example, there is a Japanese club after class on every Tuesday. Actually, this school is positive to club activity so some students join in sport club and participate to competitions.

There is a counselling room and a counselling stuff in this school. Some students who have problem in their academic life or other thing can consult it to the stuff.

Teaching System

This school has 6 classes in each grade. The number of students in one class is approximately 25 so there are almost 450 students in this school.
There are 26 teachers in this school. All teachers are graduates of S1, S2 and S3 from the Indonesian University of Education and other tertiary institutions, who are experienced in their fields of science and always develop their abilities. Each teacher teaches their specialized subject like English, Mathematics, Japanese and Religion.

There are 10 periods per day and each period takes 35 minutes. There are only 2 break times per day. It sounds hard for students but they don’t have class with all 10 periods so they can rest and go outside in periods when they don’t class with. However, some class continues for 3 periods (105 minutes) so some students easily get tired with this 105 minutes class.
