Curriculum
The curriculum used in this school is based on the national curriculum and local content determined by the school. In Mathematics class, teaching contents are based on the national Math textbook.
What I taught were “Simple Bank Interest” (it’s a part of teaching how to calculate rate with daily things like discount) and basement knowledge of Geometry, “Points, Lines and Angles”, “Angles at a point or on a line” and “Angles in a triangle”.
My teaching plan with “Bank interest”
The 1st class topic was “Simple bank interest“. I needed to teach to students what saving interest, tax, fine and bonus are and how to find the amount of money.
Firstly, I was surprised that middle high school students study bank interest because when I was a middle high school student, I didn’t study it. For that reason, teaching this theme is something new for me.
Additionally, I felt some dilemma when I taught saving interest. My major is Economics so I wanted students to understand why saving interest exists. However, that class was Mathematics so I was not sure how detailed I should explain it.
My teaching plan with
“Points, Lines and Angles”
The 2nd class topic was “Points, Lines and Angles”. I needed to teach to students what points, lines, rays, line segments and angles, the type of angles and also how to measure size of angles with protractor.
These topics are basement knowledge of geometry so students should understand each topic correctly. If students misunderstand, it can lead to a big problem in their future Mathematics. For that reason, teaching this topic was a tough task for me and I took a long time to make my teaching plan for this class.
My teaching plan with
“Angles at a point or on line”
The 3rd class topic is “Angles at a point or on line”. I needed to teach to students that angle at a point is 360 degrees, that angle on a line is 180 degrees and also how to find size of angles using the knowledge of 360 degrees and 180 degrees.
This topic was based on the 2nd class topic so checking students’ understanding was definitely important. Letting students solve several questions, I tried to make students remember that angle at a point is 360 degrees and that angle on a line is 180 degrees.
My teaching plan with “Angles in a triangle”
The topic of 4th class is “Angles In a triangle”. I needed to teach to students that the sum of angles in a triangle is 180°. I wanted them not only to remember the sum is 180° but also to prove it by themselves. For that reason, I made them cut a triangle to prove the sum is 180°.
