What I did in my free day

SEA Teacher program provided me not only teaching experiences but also some excursions in my free day. I could experience Indonesian culture and nature with these excursions and it was a good time to refresh. On this page, I introduce 2 excursions I did in Indonesia.

Saung Angklung Udjo

Saung Angklung Udjo is a theater which provides Indonesian culture show. Audiences can enjoy cultural music and dance from each island in Indonesia. Indonesia consists of a lot of islands and each island has different culture. People can experience these cultures in this theater at once.
I went to this theater with buddies and other students teachers. We watched a show which lasted for almost 2 hours. 2 hours sound long, however, it was not so long because it included a lot of enjoyable parts. For example, some students from local primary school performed Indonesian dance and music. They were cute and their performance was so good.

Additionally, I could enjoy a performance of professional musicians. They played Angkluang, Indonesian cultural instrument. Angkluang is made of bamboos and that sound is amazing. I felt Angkluang sounds echo in my mind and it relieved my stress.

The most exciting part in this show was that audiences can play an Indonesian cultural instrument and all audiences try to play one song. The instrument’s name “Angklung Besar“. It’s also an instrument made of bamboo. Audiences were divided in 7 groups and each group members have the same Angklung Besar. Each 7 Angklung Besar has its own scale like C, D, F. Playing Indonesian cultural instrument by myself was a rare experience and I was so excited with it.

Gracia Hot Spring

Bandung which I stayed for 1 month in Indonesia is famous with a lot of hot springs. One day, I went with buddies and other student teachers to a hot spring “Gracia hot spring” which exists 2 hours to the north of UPI.

There was only a shower in a dormitory of UPI so I really missed taking bath in Indonesia. From that reason, going to hot spring was so an exciting thing for me. Honestly, Indonesian hot spring was amazing. I could relive my stress and tiredness. Even though I needed to bathe in hot spring with cloths (In Japan, people usually bathe in hot spring without cloths), I was satisfied with Indonesian hot spring.
